Programs & Services
Community Mobilization Project
The Community Mobilization Project is aimed at the growing Tamil communities in Peel, York, and Durham regions. CanTYD works with both youth and the broader community to address their needs. Among the organization's activities are community school-based drop-ins, peer-to-peer counselling, and youth-focused discussion forums. The Community Mobilization Project is currently unfunded.

Kids Summer Camp
The Kids Summer Camp is a program for children aged six through twelve. It aims to develop social skills in the midst of a fun-filled week of activities, including educational field trips, workshops, and arts and crafts.

Medai Konal
Medai Konal began as a drama team that promoted youth expression, creativity, and originality through the theatrical arts. It specifically focused on the dramatic techniques of improvisation to enable at-risk youth to experience the emotions of others, as well as to increase personal awareness, and allow youth with language barriers to participate in short performance pieces. Issues tackled include youth violence, parent-child relationships, and teen dating.

Medai Konal
has since grown beyond its initial aims as a drama program. This includes visual arts such as oil and acrylic painting, and dance forms such as classical Tamil Bharathanatyam, hip-hop, and hybrid fusion forms. Medai Konal also provides the opportunity to advance one's musical talents in classical Tamil and western vocal and instrumental forms, as well as filmmaking to cater to the enthusiasm that youth foster towards this medium.

The expansion of the Medai Konal program is a source of immense pride to those involved with CanTYD. Though the program functions primarily in English, Tamil is intertwined to reach the older Tamil speaking audience. Although it is currently unfunded, efforts are made by enthusiastic artists and volunteers to continue its function as the umbrella arts program that provides a wider range of artistic forms.

Project Empowerment
Project Empowerment targets youth who are involved with the criminal justice system or display disruptive social behaviour. This program provides one-on-one support to allow for an open dialogue between youth and outreach workers to pursue healthy solutions. Project Empowerment is currently unfunded.

Project T.H.A.M.I.L.
Project T.H.A.M.I.L. (Tamils Helping and Motivating to Inspire Leadership) aims to identify strengths in individuals through diverse and creative programming. The success of Project T.H.A.M.I.L. lies in its effective incorporation of three different components - youth projects, one-on-one mentorship, and workshops.

Since 1998, the initiatives of this program have resulted in several benefits including increased attendance in class, safer school environments, and increased communication between parents and students. CanTYD's efforts with grassroots outreach, conflict mediation, and crisis support have been recognized and sought out by community partners. Project T.H.A.M.I.L. is funded by the City of Toronto Community Service Partnership program.

Selvy's Circle
Selvy's Circle is a project geared towards young Canadian Tamil women that seeks to create a positive and therapeutic environment to address their goals, concerns, and issues. Through regular seminars, discussions, workshops, and socials, participants are left with a positive experience in identifying and overcoming the barriers faced by women both socially and culturally. Selvy's Circle is currently funded by the City of Toronto Community Service Partnership and Youth Challenge Fund.

Youth Transition Program
The Youth Transition Program aims to ease the transition for grade 8 students entering high school. Through workshops, program facilitators coach students on tackling the academic and social challenges associated with the new high school environment.
